ALWAYS IN 1787, 1820, 1833, AND 1850, THE NORTH AND THE SOUT essays

Continuously IN 1787, 1820, 1833, AND 1850, THE NORTH AND THE SOUT expositions All through the late 1700s to ahead of schedule to-mid 1800s, with the solidness of the association being often tested over each, once in a while frivolous, difference, some way or another, both the north and south have discovered a shared conviction. However, it was inevitable when all these purported bargains uncovered their real nature as a progression of interwoven, or place of cards, that with each expansion makes it substantially more flimsy. Not until the mid 1860s did the place of cards at last give way and it was very evident that neither the north nor the south had the option to find that visit shared belief. In the late 1700s to mid 1800s, a large portion of the debates were over expenses, land settlement, states rights, and authoritative portrayal, however questionable, these were significantly simpler to manage and settle rather than the servitude issue that would in the end overpower society with the presentation of Eli Whitneys cotton gin in 1794. This accelerated a long time of debate, however luckily, for men like Henry Clay and John Adams, the cards of the Missouri and the 3/5ths trade offs generally hushed the two gatherings on terms of subjugation for the present. These occasions were no more bizarre to occurrences of viciousness, for example, Shays Rebellion, so in local terms, life was not extremely giddy. It was turning out to be obvious that under the outside of mellow sectional conflict there was something more prominent preparing. Keeping up the association was considered as a defend against local group and revolt particularly the years after the Treaty of Ghent of the War of 1812 which brought and solidified a more prominent sentiment of solidarity/patriotism, so individuals would be less adept to attempt to challenge and undermine both the security and steadiness of his/her nation. My Environmental Worldview free essay sample

My Environmental Worldview. Now at the turn of the two centuries the mankind comes to grips with the sharpest global problems of the modern world menacing to the existence of a civilization and even of the life on our planet. Inability to foresee and to prevent negative consequences of scientific and technical revolution threatens to cause to fall the mankind into thermonuclear, ecological or a social disaster. In many cities and rural areas the present state of the environment can be called as an ecological disaster. And the number of these cities and rural areas is still being increased. We are almost on a threshold of the close global catastrophe. If the mankind doesnt give a priority to the problems of ecology and multiply efforts on preservation and restoration of the natural environment in its activity, probably it will soon collide with irreversible processes not only in the nature, but also in the evolution of the human being as a part of the nature. We will write a custom essay sample on My Environmental Worldview or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Everyone should know the problems facing to the mankind: Human population growth, waste management, sustainable development, energy, depleting forests, mineral, water, soil resources etc. Exactly the Earth topsoil represents the major component of the Earth biosphere. The significant value of the soil consists in accumulation of organic matter, various chemical elements, and also energy. The topsoil performs functions of a biological absorber, the destroyer and neutralizer of different contaminations. If this link of the biosphere gets damaged, the fully developed functioning of biosphere will be irreversibly disturbed. For this reason, studying of the global biochemical value of the topsoil, its present condition and change under the influence of an anthropogenous activity is extremely important. Almost all polluting substances which have originally got to the atmosphere finally appear on a surface of the land and water. Soil becomes polluted by various chemical matter, pesticides, and waste products of agriculture, industry and household enterprises. Chemical compounds getting to the ground accumulate and lead to its gradual alteration of chemical and physical properties, reduce number of living organisms, worsen its fertility. I think protection of the topsoil is one of the major mankind problems, as any harmful compounds placed in soil, sooner or later get to our organism. First, there is a onstant washing away of the pollution to open reservoirs and subsoil waters which can be used by people for drinking and other needs. Second, pollution from the soil moisture, subsoil waters and open reservoirs gets to the organisms of animals and the plants using this water, and however on a food chains gets to the human organism. But it isnt a unique problem connected to the soil. In the world there is a process of reduction of the cultivable lands in agriculture. One of major concerns is desert invasion. Deserts of South-West Asia, Northern and Southern America, Sahara are growing. I think that the first step in the decision of this problem is to protect the soil against erosion and the second one is increasing of its fertility. Land improvement (amelioration)  is a set of measures to improve soil and to raise its long term fertility. It includes: irrigation, draining, erosion control, a flooding, and fertilization. Land improvement must be carefully considered otherwise it can bring more harm, than advantage. Draining works should be carried out very cautiously; differently the shallowing of the rivers and lakes that receive nourishment from bogs can take place. The dry woods can be lost. It is necessary to observe norms and a mode of applying fertilizers both mineral, and chemical, differently there will be an intoxication of the soil with mineral salts surplus, washout of salts to reservoirs, blooming of reservoirs, fish kill. But there will be excessive harmful nitrates content to the human in cultural plants. Water is a basis of a life. Its main function is life support. Fresh water consists only 3 % from the total amount of hydrosphere on the planet and it is also distributed irregularly. Not only Africa suffers from the lack of fresh water, but also large cities of Europe, America and Asia. Water used by the human finally comes back to the natural environment. Thus there is a pollution of fresh water reservoirs rivers, lakes, land and coastal sites of the seas. According to the calculations of scientists, 25 thousand km3 of fresh water, or practically all accessible resources of such drain can be demanded for the dilution of these waste waters! For this reason and not because of the growth of a direct water intake this is the main reason of an aggravation of a problem of fresh water. Now many rivers belong to a number of strongly polluted: Rhine, Danube, Seine, Ohio, Volga, Dnepr, Dnestr, etc. Pollution of the World Ocean grows. And here not only pollution by runoff plays the essential role, but also a plenty of mineral oil penetration to seas and oceans. In whole, the most polluted inland seas are Mediterranean, Northern, Baltic, and also the Bay of Biscay, the Persian and Mexican gulfs. There are three kinds of water pollution biological, chemical and physical. In my opinion, resources of fresh waters can be increased by use of the closed circulating water supply at the enterprises. It is a blasphemously to use drinking water for the industrial purposes. Scientists suggest the desalination of sea water, runoff of river, gathering rain and thawed water in underground storehouses. I’m sure that closed in time water tap can bring its contribution to the struggle for preservation of water resources. In my opinion huge advantage in struggle for the water purification, can do nanotechnologies. For example, Petersburg scientist Petrik suggests using the absorbent created in his laboratory for clearing reservoirs of various kinds of pollution right up to radiation. In Petersburg tests of this substance at clearing waters of the river Neva from oil and fuel spots have passed. Productivity of this absorbent was the best. There is a natural resource which is necessary for the human as a land and water it is an air. But there is no, perhaps, such resource, except air, which absence would become an insoluble problem for the human less than in minute after its disappearance. It is known, that pollution of the atmosphere occurs basically as a result of the industrial, transport and other activity, which annually throws out in air more than billion solid and gaseous particles. Nowadays the basic polluters of atmospheres are carbon oxide and sulfur dioxide gas. But, certainly, it is impossible to forget about chlorofluorocarbon (Freon). The majority of scientists believe they are the reason of the formation of so-called ozone gaps in the atmosphere. Just due to the decreasing of ozone contents in the top layers of the atmosphere Physicians explain growth of a quantity of skin cancer. Fertile drops of a rain one more gift of heavens always pleased the human. But in some areas of the Globe rains have turned to a serious danger. Difficult and complicated in its decision problem of acid rains which perniciously affects on the nature of reservoirs, damages silva and agricultural crops. All these substances represent a certain danger to the human life. The main chemical pollutant of the atmosphere – is the sulfur dioxide gas isolated at burning of coal, slates, oil, at the melt of iron, copper, manufacturing of a sulfuric acid, etc. Sulfur dioxide is the reason of acid rains. The poisonous fog sharply worsening conditions of human life appears in industrial regions at the high concentration of sulfur dioxide, dust, and smoke in wet calm weather. This problem is of my personal concern. I live in a small town where there are 3 huge plants: cement, asbestos and brick-making. During a manufacturing process these plants throw out to the atmosphere the huge amount of harmful substances. More and more people in our town become ill with the diseases of lungs, allergy. In my opinion, modernization of the old plants by new equipment meeting the ecological requirements of manufacturing in the greater degree can solve a problem of air pollution. Transport occupies the second place after the enterprises polluting the air environment. Carbonic oxide and oxides of nitrogen are the principal causes of headaches, weariness, unmotivated irritation, low work capacity. In big cities diseases of blood circulation and breath, heart attacks, a hypertension and cancer are widely spread. Automobiles also add heavy metals and other harmful substances to the soil and air. Developers of machines work on the creation of an alternative fuel for transport. Solar batteries, electric machine and etc, completely harmless to the environment are proposed. I like the offer of the mayor of Paris who has proposed to use bicycles which anybody can rent for a small payment for the movement around the historical city centre. Forests play the major role in a normal function of the natural ecosystems. They absorb atmospheric pollution of an anthropogenous origin, protect the soil from erosion, adjust a normal surface runoff, interfere a decrease subsoil waters level and flood of the rivers, channels and water basins. Woods are â€Å"the lungs of the planets â€Å", and reduction of forests areas breaks the process of carbon cycle in biosphere. In spite of the fact that catastrophic consequences of deforestation are already widely known, it still continues. Deforestation entails the destruction of the richest flora and fauna. The human deplete the appearance of his planet. There are other global problems which can begin in connection with deforestation: desertification, soil erosion, â€Å"greenhouse effect â€Å". In my opinion the correct solution of this problem could be possible, if the mass deforestation is reduced, works on artificial forestation are carried out thus establishing balance of the carbon cycle. I think deforestation on big areas will increase the reflecting ability of the Earth. It will change wind current, air circulation. In the issue, in equatorial zones the amount of precipitations will be reduced, that finally will result to the desertification. The attitudes of the human to woodland of our planet need to change quickly. Deforestation is one of the reasons for the climate change. Global warming is the most serious ecological threat of the XXI century. The atmospheric emissions caused by a human activity, leads to essential increase of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Higher concentration of these gases increases the greenhouse effect, resulting in additional heating of the earth surface and lead to a global warming. I consider the main measure on the prevention of the global warming can be formulated this way: we should find a new kind of fuel or to change technology of the present kinds of fuel use. It means, it is necessary: To reduce the consumption of fossil fuel. To use filters for removal of emissions from chimneys of power stations, and also automobile exhausts; To demand, that more effective systems of heating and cooling were placed in new houses; To increase using of solar and wind energy; To reduce deforestation; To expand the areas of reserves and parks; To create the laws providing the prevention of global warming; identifying reasons of the global warming, monitoring and elimination of consequences. An important problem facing the modern world is population growth. Therefore experts of all worlds ecologists, sociologists, psychologists, anthropologists carry out a plenty of the researches concerning problems of the planet population, and the results are horrified. The popul ation of the Earth will increase on conditions that excess of death rates by the rates of birth. Now it occurs like this. The annual population growth varying from 1 up to 3 % seems small, but such parameters mean huge increasing of the population for the centenary period. Now the real way of an overpopulation problem decision is a regulation of the population. Governments of most developing countries try to cut down birth rate both by economic and family planning. Along with the population growth scientists mark a growth of number of a pension age people that is especially actual for the countries of Europe. One more remarkable problem connected to the population, is an urbanization and growth of cities. Plenty of people use automobiles more and more that demands large areas for roads and parking lots that lead to pollution of the environment and energetically inefficient use of the ground. So, these are the basic problems of the population at the present stage of development of our civilization on the Earth. They demand the fast solving, differently our life can become much worse. The more people are on the planet the more power resources they consume. Ecological well-being considerably depends on the reasonable development of power engineering of the Earth, because the half of all gases causing â€Å"greenhouse effect† is created there. The fuel and energy balance of a planet consists basically from pollutant oil, coal, gas. I think that in these conditions only the nuclear power engineering can be a solution, as it is capable in short terms to reduce the greenhouse effect. Replacement of coal, oil and gas by the nuclear power engineering has already given some abatement in emissions of Ð ¡ÃÅ¾2 and other greenhouse gases . The population grows affects the increase of the amount of waste products. Today per capita production of raw materials on the planet is about 20 tons a year which are processed using 800 t of water and 2. kW of power into products while 90 98 % go to waste. The domestic waste per person does not exceed 0. 3-0. 6 t a year. The rest is an industrial waste. As I see it the most acceptable variant of the decision of this problem to learn to recycle waste and to develop a new branch of industry. Here there are some ways of the decision: 1. It is necessary to change the practice of the general gath ering of refuse collection and to carry out its sorting in collection points. 2. It is necessary to create the enterprises for processing of sorted waste products and manufacturing the goods necessary for a society. 3. By the legislative way it is necessary to determine enterprises tax producing single use production, because they cause increasing of waste products volume. Sustainability is one of the major parameters of any systems, including ecological. It determines the ability of a system to maintain itself at the changes of an environment. In the context of this definition we can consider stability as a synonym of the term vitality. In other words the mankind must learn to â€Å"live within its means†, to utilize natural resources without undermining them, to invest money to insurance funding programs aimed at preventing catastrophic consequences of its own activity. This conception is based the fact , that if three fourth of the population of the Earth, nowadays living in poorly advanced countries, goes the same way of development as in advanced countries, the planet obviously would not stand such powerful consumption of its resources and pollution and inevitable ecological catastrophe will burst. At the same time I think it is impossible to blame developing countries for their desire to improve living standards of their fast growing population. I think that the one who pollutes the environment, basically, should bear expenses of eliminating the consequences. The assessment of a state of environment should be effected for reduction of the risk of damaging before a beginning of realization of the projects which can have undesirable consequences. Governments must cut or cancel subsidizing of that projects which do not conform to the purposes and sustainable development problems. The state of sustainable of a world ecosystem depends on as far as the mankind can solve global problems of the present and to prevent the occurrence of new ones. Nature protection is a concern of our century, the concern that has become social. Again and again we hear about the danger threatening to environment, but still many of us consider their unpleasant, but imminent product of a civilization and believe, that we still will have time to cope with all come to light difficulties. However influence of the human on the environment has accepted threatening scales. We need purposeful and carefully planned actions to radically improve the situation. About some possible ways of the decision of problems of environment I have already written. But has not mentioned in my opinion an important point necessities of attraction as much as possible number of people to struggle for preservation of nature. It is necessary to enhance work on informing of the population by mass media about concerns of a world scale what we have. The person must know what exactly he can do to prevent irreversible processes on the Earth. Introduction of ecological education in education of schoolboys and students of the higher school is necessarily. Everyone: the seller, the accountant, the driver, the politician must realize the responsibility for influence of the person on the nature. I consider, that an ecological concern one of the most important problems of mankind. The future of all planets depends on the decision of this problem. And already now people should understand and take an active part in struggle for world preservation. Each person should realize that Mankind on the verge of destruction, and our survival depends upon each of us.

Narcolepsy Essays (925 words) - Sleep Disorders, Dream, Neuroscience

Narcolepsy An article in the Scientific American, by Jerome M. Siegel, focused on a dangerous sleeping disorder called Narcolepsy. A Narcoleptic has Symptoms such as cataplexy, which is the loss of skeletal muscle tone, and always feeling sleepy during daytime hours. The people suffering from this disorder tend to feel as if they hadn't gone to sleep for 48 hours. In addition, they sleep poorly at night. Laughter, embarrassment, sudden anger, social interactions with strangers, and sexual intercourse may trigger a cataplectic attack. A Narcoleptic may even fall asleep at the most dangerous times. For example, driving a car with this untreated disorder puts a person at high risk of an automobile accident. The disorder makes it difficult for them to focus on specific things, such as schoolwork or work in the workplace. Sleep paralysis and hypnagognic hallucinations are among two other symptoms of narcolepsy. Sleep paralysis is an ability to move when you fall asleep or awaken. This occurs daily. On the other hand, hypnagogic hallucinations are dreamlike experiences during waking that sometimes incorporate elements of the environment. These symptoms occur when narcoleptics are most sleepy. In addition, not every person suffers from the symptoms the same way. Also, this article pointed out that Narcolepsy affects between one and one thousand and one and two thousand people in the U.S. In contrast, one in 600 in Japan to one in 500,000 in Israel. It also stated that the environment and ethnic backgrounds are the reason for the number differences of these countries. The first signs of Narcolepsy appear in the teens or 20's. The symptoms do get worse after a few years and then they plateau. The causes or Narcolepsy is linked to a disruption of the sleep control mechanism in our brain. Our sleep cycle normally has two stages, Rapid-Eye movement Sleep (REM), and Non-Rapid Eye Movement Sleep (NREM). When were experiencing NREM sleep, our muscles are relaxed, breathing is normal, the cerebral cortex generates high-voltage waves and the energy consumed by the brain is minimized. In contrast, in REM sleep, breathing and heart rate are irregular, rapid eye movements occur; the cortex generates fast, irregular, low voltage waves. Non-Narcoleptics tend to begin to sleep with NREM sleep. After 90 minutes or so, they're in REM sleep. When this happens, they experience loss of muscle tone and dreamlike hallucinations that usually occur during REM sleep. Researchers stated that being sleepy is normal, but its the large amount of sleep in Narcoleptics thats very abnormal. In the early 1970's, advanced research in Narcolepsy began. Researchers discovered that some dogs showed that they had very similar symptoms to human narcoleptics. William C. Demit of Stanford University stated that the disease in the dogs was inherited by both the mother and father to their offspring. In the 1940's, Horace W. Magnoun of Northwestern University discovered when he electrically stimulated the medulla (part of the brain stem) the muscle tone disappeared. He didn't connect his studies to sleep. The studies in animals show us that the main function of the muscle-tone control system in the medulla suppresses muscle activity in REM sleep. In addition, it regulates the level of muscle tone in waking. This part doesnt work when the animals are moving. This explains the notion of when we try to relax or turn off our muscles; we are actually trying to turn on this specific section of the brain. REM sleep is the only time when normal individuals lose all muscle tone. Another study by Frank Wu indicated that there was another group of nerve cells in the brainstem called the Locus Coeruleus. The locus coeruleus also plays a role in REM sleep and narcolepsy. It releases a neurotransmitter called norepinephrine, which communicates with another neurons. Both these nerve cells are active in animals in waking, but inactive when theyre in REM sleep. In REM sleep the reduced amount of motor neurons prevents them from moving or responding to their dreams. In cataplexy, the same reduction prevents the motor neurons from responding to a narcoleptics attempt to move. Researchers also concluded that unknown agents in the environment may cause an autoimmune reaction that ends up damaging neurons in the brain that control arousal and muscle tone. After narcoleptic symptoms occur, the patients

Free Essays on Kierkegaard Vs. Nietzsche

Existentialism is based on the idea of individual existence, subjectivity, and the individual's freedom of/and choice. The task of existential thought is to locate or create meaning given the ambiguity of human existence. Existential themes are not limited to a particular time period. We often still explore them in connection with philosophy of race, questions concerning war, violence and justice, societal values and our education system. These themes can be linked to all aspects of human race. Orderly reasoning and acting systematically is avoided at all costs in Existentialism thought. Both Kierkegaard and Nietzsche are noted most for their random ways of exploring and expressing their ideas. They both used many different literary styles to express their thoughts. Kierkegaard, who was a Danish philosopher disagreed with the thoughts of traditional ancient Greek philosophers such as Socrates and Plato. He disagreed with the thought of the highest ethical goods as being universal as many other philosophers do. He viewed an individualistic approach to the ultimate good. Kierkegaard said individuals have their own specific destiny. Each individual has his or her own freedom to choose their will to God. He believes institutions transform individuals into anonymous, herds of mindless conformists. He warns that we must be ready for the repercussions from our own decisions. We have to be ready for the consequences at hand. There is both risk and responsibility attached to our use of freedom of choice. Even when matters seem miniscule and unimportant, what a person chooses is always ultimately important. The way one goes about making a decision is just as important as what one ultimately decides. Briefing paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1

Briefing paper - Essay Example The level of misunderstanding does increase terribly such meeting occurs between people of different countries. Variations in the methods applied to communication also show the difference in culture that is available in the country. These variations, therefore, tend to cause challenges for international companies like Secure IT Mobile towards their globalization system. As a business company in Italy, the Secure IT is faced with a lot of difficulties concerning corruption practices by its employees and the clients themselves. However, in some cultures within the country do accept bribes but it is still detrimental the development of such companies within the market structure. Some forms of bribery that may include money, gifts, some favors, and even entertainment to those targeted by such bribes. Any bribe is quite illegal in Italy and also is unethical business practice in a healthy business operation environment. Some countries, however, bribes are allowed to such an extent no any business can operate in such countries without offering bribes. Bribery, therefore, should be discouraged at all costs since inhibits total income collection from most investment companies, with reference to Secure IT mobile too in Italy(Soerens & Hwang 2009). Businesses such as the Secure IT mobile in Italy may find themselves paying bribes. They can find themselves spending because of the following conditions; competition from other firms, pressure from top management and legalization of the practice itself by the country. Lastly, they may also do them because of high taxation levies, government regulations, and reduced payment to government officials and bureaucratic business delays(Rotschild & Wingfield 2008). The language used for communication in Italy is the Italia no. However, English is the most recognized business language all over the world. It has, therefore, proved to be very difficult for Secure

Pepsi Generation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Pepsi Generation - Essay Example In this commercial there are some kids dancing Michael Jackson’s dance steps with background music â€Å"Pepsi Generation†. When they are playing the dance the leading boy accidentally runs into Michael’s back. He is obviously shocked because he just saw his super idol surprisingly. Then this boy continues to dance with Michael, holding a can of Pepsi. In the end, these kids say goodbye to Michael with satisfaction. This commercial could succeed due to several reasons. The leading role in the commercial is played by Michael Jackson. Michael was the hottest and most symbolic star at that time. His presence was already a success for Pepsi. His dance, song, and fashion were all the trends young people chased for in the 1980s. He even reworked â€Å"Billie Jean† and named â€Å"Pepsi Generation† in the ad. Michael Jackson, his friends, and street kids dancing with â€Å"Pepsi Generation†, this scene makes Michael Jackson culture more into a fitted Pepsi commercial. Compared to using â€Å"Billie Jean† directly, the reworked song was more inspiring, catchy and suitable for commercial theme. Moreover, people who were influenced by this ad at that time will remind of Pepsi even when they heard of â€Å"Billie Jean†. From a costumers’ view, Michael Jackson was closely connected with Pepsi. Due to the superstars influence, Pepsi benefited from it greatly in the long run. The story in the commercial itself was a catchy one. These kids are big fans of Michael Jackson and all they can do is mimic Michael’s dance even though they may not able to afford his concert tickets or his CDs. However, when they are drinking Pepsi coke and dancing, they met Michael Jackson in person and even started dancing with him. That was such a huge surprise for them. Personally speaking I also have a super idol. Imagine one day I meet him on the street and even dance with him. I will definitely be crazy about it and never forget it in my

How War Is Necessary Essay Example for Free

How War Is Necessary Essay Mr.Weirzbowski-English 10 War has been with mankind for many millenniums. The reasons for wars in mankind’s history have all been various, however one big reason for war is that countries want to grow bigger, by taking over one another. Throughout history, rulers would not be satisfied with the amount of land that they had or wanted to spread their beliefs around the world. So, they did it by trying to take over others. However, some didn’t want to give up their land or change, so they fought. Fighting these wars are, however, necessary no matter what people believe. This is because fighting them and winning will stop them from controlling others. Some wars that stopped countries from controlling others are the second world war, the war in Vietnam, and the Revolutionary war. However, there are claims that the Vietnam war could’ve been avoided, but there would’ve been consequences for going to war. War is necessary because it’s a way to try to stop countries from dominating over others and controlling them. There are many ways that war has stopped countries from controlling one another. Firstly, the Vietnamese war was necessary because, the war would’ve stopped the spreading of communism to neighboring asian countries, also known as the â€Å"domino theory†. The idea of communism started with the election of Ho Chi Minh in North Vietnam. Kennedy wasn’t concerned with Vietnam until Lyndon B Johnson called Ngo Dinh Diem the â€Å"Wi nston Churchill of Asia† because, Diem was the only one trying to resist the communists and Johnson promised to help him. Noam Chomsky, a US philosopher, stated that if a country better its economy due to communism, neighboring countries would try to improve their economy using communism, as seen when China influenced North Vietnam. Had communism been successfully spread to South Vietnam, then Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc. Also, other countries would’ve lost faith in the US for not protecting S.Vietnam in their time of need. This shows that the US needed to fight this war to stop the communistic ideals from spreading to countries and to keep the confidence of other countries around the world, so that they could help the US when the US needs them. The second world war as necessary  because, it showed how the world responds to a fascist ruler controlling a major country, trying to claim the world. It also showed how the US would react when attacked by another major country. Hitler want to create a â€Å"master race†, which was blonde-haired, blue-eyed people. So when he came into power, he had convinced the german people that jewish people were less than humans and should be treated as such. Thus he started taking over various countries in Europe and started killing jewish people to start his plan. While that was happening, the US was maintaining neutrality and supplying Britain, Russia, and China with weapons until the japanese attacked pearl harbor on December 1941. The US then declared war on Japan and fought in the Pacific theater until August 15th, 1945. Had the axis powers won World War II, North America and South America would be surrounded by dictators ready to destroy democracy and take over the world. Also, H itler’s plan would’ve probably been completed and the world would’ve been comprised of blonde, blue-eyed people. However, the war told us that when we are concerned with individualism, we become selfish and corrupted or under the influence of corrupted selfish nations. This war was needed because, when one tries to dominate and take over another country, we become blinded and end falling. We need teamwork to stay strong in the world. Finally, the Revolutionary War was necessary because, it allowed rights normally granted by the king, to be for every single individual. It also sparked other revolutions, along with stopping Britian from controlling the colonies. When the French Indian War concluded, King George III made the Proclamation of 1763, which stated that no colonists may settle west of the Appalachian and anyone other than Indians there had to move from the area. The Boston Massacre also brought them closer to the revolution, because British soldiers killed 5 civilians for calling them names. The Stamp Act of 1765, Townshend Act of 1767, and the Tea Act of 1773, were all attempt of Britian to try and control the colonies in North America. However after the war, the Declaration of Independence was signed and Britian let the colonies rule themselves. With this newfound freedom, the colonists were allowed to trade with anyone they wanted, colonize past the Appalachian Mountains, set up a new government and th e British moved out of the colonies. Had the colonists lost the war, the US would probably still be under British rule to this day. Even with all this evidence that war is necessary, people still see war as a terrible thing. Going back to the Vietnam War, the Vietnamese War could’ve been avoided because the US could’ve stayed neutral and let the problem in Vietnam blow over, instead of sacrificing 50,000 men. The war would’ve been avoided and Vietnam would’ve became a communist country along with possibly, part of Asia. Robert McNamara, defense chief under John F Kennedy and Lyndon B Johnson, says that he doubted Vietnam would let China or Russia use them as a base, but that’s the US had feared at the time. The US had feared that China or Russia would use them as a base they could use to control more parts of Asia. The Vietnamese could’ve probably fought the war themselves and probably resisted the communistic ways of China and/or Russia. The belief about if war is needed in the world or not cuts both ways. Either that it helps bring everlasting peace in the world closer or it’s useless and all it does is kill off innocent people. War is a big thing that stops countries from trying to gain total global domination or keeping them at bay until they give up. Until that happens, there will be allies who will attack at a moments notice when a country is trying to bite off more than it can chew. There are so many more examples of how war is necessary in the world that this would be a lot longer than it is already. The concept of war may seem bad, but in the end, it’s all worth it.

Halloween & Christmas? Similar or Different? Essay

When you think about Christmas and Halloween you think that they are two completely different holidays. But are they really, are they completely different or are they the same thing just celebrated at different times in the year. Well thats what we are going to find out. Christmas celebrated on December 25 and Halloween celebrated on October 31 very unique holidays with many questions to be answered. Lets start with Halloween since that comes first in the year. Halloween is a holiday celebrated at night on October 31st. The word Halloween is shortening All Hallows’ Evening also known as Hallowe’en or All Hallows’ Eve. The traditional activities include trick-or-treating, bonfires, costume parties, visiting â€Å"haunted houses† and carving or painting pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns. Irish and Scottish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North America in the nineteenth century. Other western countries embrace the holiday in the late twentieth century including Ireland, the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom as well as Australia and New Zealand. The ancient Gaels believed that on October 31, the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the dead overlapped and the deceased would come back to life and cause havoc such as sickness or damaged crops. The countries this scary holiday is celebrated in are; Austria, Korea , Belgium, Mexico (day of the dead), Canada, Latin America, China, Spain, Sweden, Czechoslovakia, England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, and Japan. Christmas is both a sacred religious holiday and a worldwide cultural and commercial phenomenon. For two millennia, people around the world have been observing it with traditions and practices that are both religious and secular in nature. Christians celebrate Christmas Day as the anniversary of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, a spiritual leader whose teachings form the basis of their religion. Popular customs include exchanging gifts, decorating Christmas trees, attending church, sharing meals with family and friends and, of course, waiting for Santa Claus to arrive. December 25–Christmas Day–has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1870.

Mapping Your Ancestry With Google Maps

Google Maps is a free web map server application that offers street maps for Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, the United States and much of western Europe, plus satellite map images for the entire world. Google Maps is just one of many free mapping services on the web, but its ease of use and options for customization through the Google API makes it a popular mapping option. There are three map types offered within Google Maps - street maps, satellite maps, and a hybrid map that combines satellite imagery with an overlay of streets, city names, and landmarks. Some parts of the world offer much more detail than others. For Genealogists Google Maps makes it easy to locate places, including small towns, libraries, cemeteries, and churches. It is important to note that these are not historic listings, however. Google Maps draws its locations from current map and business listings, so the cemetery listings, for example, will generally be larger cemeteries that are in current use. To create a Google Map, you begin by selecting a location. You can do this through search, or by dragging and clicking. Once youve found the location you want, then switch to the find businesses tab to pinpoint churches, cemeteries, historical societies, or other points of interest. My Google Maps In April 2007, Google introduced My Maps which allows you to plot multiple locations on a map; add text, photos, and videos; and draw lines and shapes. You can then share these maps with others via email or on the Web with a special link. You can also choose to include your map in public Google search results or keep it private - accessible only through your special URL. Just click on the My Maps tab to create your own custom Google maps. Mashups Mashups are programs that use the free Google Maps API to find new and creative ways of using Google Maps. If youre into coding, you can use the Google Maps API yourself to create your own Google Maps to share on your Web site or email to friends. This is a bit more than most of us want to dig into, however, which is where these Google Maps mashups (tools) come in. Tools All mapping tools built on Google Maps require that you request your own free Google Maps API key from Google. This unique key is required to allow you to display the maps you create on your own Web site. Once you have your Google Maps API key, check out the following: Community Walk: This tool is easy to use and allows plenty of room for pictures and comments for each location. You can customize your markers and colors, so you could use one color marker for paternal lines and another for maternal. Or you could use one color for cemeteries and another for churches.TripperMap: Designed to work seamlessly with the free Flickr photo service, this one is especially fun for documenting family history travels and vacations. Just upload your photos to Flickr, tag them with location information, and TripperMap will generate a flash-based map for you to use on your Web site. The free version of TripperMap is limited to 50 locations, but that is enough for most genealogy applications.MapBuilder: MapBuilder was one of the first applications to let you build your own Google map with multiple location markers. Its not as user-friendly as Community Walk, in my opinion, but offers many of the same features. Includes the ability to generate Google Map source code for your map which can be used to display the map on your own webpage.
